The Society for the Environment (SocEnv) has introduced a new registration grade Entry-Level Environmentalist (ELEnv).  It is a registration level designed to recognise individuals with environmental knowledge who are just starting their careers or completing relevant apprenticeships.

What is SocEnv?

The Society for the Environment, supported by its Member Bodies, is the body responsible for championing and registering professionals with proven competence in their environmental work.

Working as a partnership with Licensed Members, SocEnv ensure the quality, relevance and awareness of their registrations and enable partners and registrants to work together.

They are in a unique position, bringing together a range of disciplines and sectors to reflect the multi-disciplinary practice of environmental professionals.

Entry-Level Environmentalist (ELEnv)

The Entry Level Environmentalist (ELEnv) register was created for people who have developed awareness and environmental knowledge but haven’t yet built up all the experience needed for the professional registers like REnvTech, REnvP, or CEnv. Registration as an Entry-Level Environmentalist is intended as a stepping stone to allow a registrant to gain an appropriate amount of practical experience.

With ELEnv, you get:

  • A support network to help you work toward higher professional titles (within 3 years).  ELEnv acts as stepping stone to reach the register of your choice.
  • Post-nominals (ELEnv) that show your passion and dedication to environmental work and professionalism.
  • A pathway that includes guidance through the SOE.
  • Access to a community that’s there to guide, inspire, and grow with you.
  • By joining, you’re not just building your CV, you’re investing in a future where your voice, your values, and your work can change things.

From an organisational perspective, employing ELEnv registrants ensures operational teams, and the potential leaders of tomorrow, help businesses continually make sustainable operational decisions day in, day out. This is increasingly necessary as customers demand transparency and higher ethical standards. Environmental professionals exist in all sectors, from core environmental management to engineering, science to agriculture, chemicals to transport. The opportunities to make a difference as a core environmental professional or an environmental specialist within another discipline are growing and increasingly valued.

The registration fee (set by SocEnv) would be £10 per year. Applicants would need appropriate vocational or technical qualification, or equivalent; two sponsors; and a willingness to follow the SOE Code of Conduct and maintain appropriate continuing professional development (CPD).

SOE is considering whether to offer and actively promote ELEnv registration, primarily to apprentice and student members, while keeping it open to other eligible applicants.

This survey will help us understand awareness, whether our communications are clear, and the potential value and likely take-up of the registration.
