Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS)
The Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS) is designed to evaluate and recognise the quality of maintenance, facilities, and staff competence of commercial vehicle workshops, addressing the industry’s growing need for consistency, safety and future readiness.
What is MPRS?
The MPRS is an independent accreditation scheme which evaluates and recognises the quality of maintenance, facilities, and staff competence of commercial vehicle workshops of all sizes.
Workshops or maintenance facilities responsible for commercial vehicles including HGVs, PSVs, and specialist fleet vehicles, can apply for MPRS accreditation, and use their rating to demonstrate competency, compliancy and credibility, to strengthen their reputation. The higher the rating, the greater the confidence operators should have in the competences.
The scheme is endorsed by industry bodies including the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and the Office of Traffic Commissioners.

For medium-sized workshops offering comprehensive maintenance services. It introduces more rigorous requirements for staff qualifications, workshop facilities, and equipment, ensuring workshops meet higher operational and safety standards.
For large workshops or those offering advanced services, ensuring exceptional standards in staff qualifications, facilities, equipment, and communication. These workshops cater to both conventional and cutting-edge vehicle technologies, reflecting their higher operational capacities.
For workshops with the most advanced facilities, the highest levels of staff qualifications, and full compliance with the latest industry standards. This level is suited for operators at the cutting edge of maintenance technology and practices, ensuring full readiness for future vehicle trends, including electric, hybrid, and hydrogen-powered systems.

Often operators assume that workshops and their technicians “must” meet a basic standard but, in practice, they are entirely unregulated. This voluntary scheme, designed by the industry for the industry, makes a provider’s status transparent.

- What is MPRS?
The MPRS is a structured rating scheme designed to evaluate and recognise commercial vehicle workshops’ standards, quality of maintenance, facilities, and staff competence. The scheme aims to improve standards, ensure best practices, and provide assurance to operators and industry regulators.
- Who is eligible to apply for MPRS?
Any workshop or maintenance facility responsible for the maintenance and servicing of commercial vehicles, including HGVs, PSVs, and specialist fleet vehicles, can apply for MPRS accreditation.
- How long does the accreditation process take?
Typically, the accreditation process takes around 2 to 8 weeks from the initial application to final certification, subject to scheduling availability, the completeness of documentation, and any required corrective actions following the audit.
- How often do I need to renew MPRS accreditation?
Accreditation is valid for three years, after which you’ll need to undertake a renewal audit to retain your MPRS rating.
- Does MPRS replace the IRTE Workshop accreditation?
No, MPRS does not replace the IRTE Workshop Accreditation. They are distinct but complementary schemes
