The Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) is preparing to unveil a transformative new industry benchmark, the Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS).
Designed to raise standards and drive confidence across the commercial vehicle maintenance sector, MPRS will be officially launched on Day 1, 29th April of the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show at the IRTE stand 5C24.
Introducing MPRS: Raising Standards Across the Industry
MPRS is a centralised rating scheme designed to differentiate workshops and maintenance providers, based on the competency of their people and the quality of their facilities. Ratings go from Qualified, Bronze to Silver, Gold, and Platinum, giving the industry a clear and transparent way to benchmark competency.
MPRS is an industry-led initiative that sets and defines standards for maintenance practices, helping workshops demonstrate their commitment to excellence, safety, and professional development.
Why MPRS Matters
For workshop leaders and technicians, MPRS offers:
- Clear benchmarks for elevating workshop standards
- Recognition of people and facility competence
- Support for technician development and CPD
- A trusted way to signal reliability to operators
For operators, it’s a beacon of confidence—proof that their chosen maintenance providers are serious about quality, compliance, and safety.
Who’s Behind the Scheme?
The development of MPRS has been driven by a powerful collaboration across the commercial vehicle industry. It is steered by IRTE and supported by:
- Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA)
- Department for Transport (DfT)
- Logistics UK
- Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)
- Road Haulage Association (RHA)
- Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT)
- Traffic Commissioners
- British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA)
- National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA)
Daimler Truck UK was the first major OEM to participate in the MPRS pilot, reflecting strong endorsement and practical insight from across the industry.
