In a significant move to bolster the UK's automotive sector, DAF Trucks has officially launched the DAF Apprentice Academy in Nottingham.

This £3.5 million investment marks a major milestone in the DAF's commitment to nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals in the commercial vehicle industry. The academy's opening coincides with National Apprenticeship Week, from February 10 to 16, highlighting DAF's dedication to vocational training and career development.

Next-Level Training Facilities

Located on Thane Road, just outside Nottingham city centre, the DAF Apprentice Academy boasts state-of-the-art facilities for hands-on training and theoretical education.

Key features include:

  • 18-Bay Workshop: Equipped with state-of-the-art tooling and equipment, offering real-world experience for apprentices.
  • 11 Fully Equipped Classrooms: Ensuring a balanced approach to education with both practical and theoretical learning.
  • Recreational and Support Facilities: A cafeteria for up to 100 people, gym-standard locker and washroom facilities, and a spacious recreational area contribute to a holistic learning environment.

Training Pathways and Partnerships

The academy offers specialised training across various disciplines, including Technician Training, Parts and Service Training, Business Administration, and Departmental Management. This comprehensive approach is made possible through a long-standing partnership with Skillnet, ensuring the curriculum aligns with nationally recognised qualifications. Skillnet also plays a crucial role in apprentice recruitment and provides ongoing support throughout the program.

The DAF Apprenticeship Programme, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025, has seen over 2,400 individuals graduate, with many advancing to senior roles within DAF Trucks and its dealer network. The new academy is set to train 500 apprentices in its inaugural year, reflecting the program's growth and the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the sector.

Restoration of Historic DAF 95

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the DAF Apprenticeship Programme, apprentices will embark on a restoration project of a DAF 95 chassis. This project not only celebrates the program's legacy but also underscores DAF's commitment to preserving its heritage while embracing innovation.
