Join Brunel Western Regional Group for a presentation from Commander Tony Coverdale RN Rtd on Electric Vehicles.

The first practical electric vehicles appeared during the 1890s. Battery powered milk floats appeared in the 1930s, which by 1967 gave Britain the largest electric vehicle fleet in the world.

An Electric Vehicle, or EV, is a vehicle which exclusively uses chemical energy stored in rechargeable battery packs to provide propulsion. An EV uses electric motors and motor controllers instead of an internal combustion engine.

Global sales of EVs passed 1,000,000 in September 2016. In October 2020, the world’s top-selling EV was the Tesla Model 3, with an estimated 645,000 sales, followed by the Nissan Leaf with sales of over 500,000.

This presentation will consider the anatomy of an EV, particularly the battery, how batteries have been adapted to support the EV, how batteries are managed and the impact the battery has on car design.

We look forward to seeing you at what promises to be a fascinating talk.

If travelling by train. Alight at Keynsham Station and it is a short walk up the hill into Keynsham, go right at the roundabout and the Hotel is on the left.
